Food Vendors Selected for Eugene 08 Festival

Phad Thai. Teriyaki chicken. BBQ ribs. Spanakopeta. Big bean burritos. Is your mouth watering yet? These taste treats and more will be available at the Eugene 08 Festival.

After a month-long process, a subcommittee of the Eugene 08 Local Organizing Committee has selected six local vendors to provide a diverse selection of food for hungry track & field fans -- and everybody else wandering around the Eugene 08 Festival this summer. Track Town natives will be happy to find local favorites Ritta’s Burritos, Bubba’s and Café Glendi as well as Great Philly Steak Sandwich, Papayas and Lorenzo's -- all serving mouth-watering cuisine.

“We were thrilled with the variety and quality of vendors who applied,” said selection coordinator Janis Ross of the Convention and Visitors Association of Lane County Oregon. “Narrowing it down to the six who will be serving at the Festival was difficult, but we know that these vendors will provide great food and service to everybody involved in Eugene 08.”

Ritta Dreier of Ritta’s Burritos said “I am very excited to be a part of the Eugene 08 Festival Food Court. It’s going to be a huge challenge. I say, bring it on!” Another vendor, Yuen Lee of Papayas, added that they will be serving “delicious freshly made Asian food. We only cook with 100 % heart healthy oils with zero trans fats and no MSG.”

The Eugene 08 Festival is free and will be open before, during and after competition at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field. Food booths will be set up in a ‘food court’ within the “Super Block” area surrounding Hayward Field. The epicenter of the Festival will be on the intramural fields between Hayward Field and the University of Oregon Student Rec Center where there will be two Jumbo Video Screens with simulcast of the competition as well as a stage powered by solar energy with live entertainment – including music and athlete interviews -- before and after the meet. The “Super Block” will be filled with interactive displays, merchandise, food vendors, expo booths and more.
