Come meet the 1980 Team members – 3:00 p.m. Friday June 27th at the Eugene 08 Festival stage
In celebration of the return of the Olympic Trials to Hayward Field, the Local Organizing Committee of Eugene 08 has invited all athletes and staff of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team to attend the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field. More than eighty members have accepted the invitation and will attend.
The 1980 Team Reunion will be a celebration of their individual accomplishments, a chance to reconnect with their teammates, as well as a return to Track Town, USA and a chance to see Hayward Field and attend the Eugene 08 Festival. A list of athletes and staff who have indicated that they will attend is here.
Eugene 08 is grateful for the generous support of Nike Inc. and King Estate Winery, which will host private receptions for the team members. The team members will arrive in Portland on June 25th and spend the next day on the Nike campus in Beaverton. They also go to Salem where they will be greeted by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski at the State Capitol on Friday, June 27th at 10:00 a.m.
At 3:00 p.m. on that Friday, members of the team will be available at the Eugene 08 Festival stage. They will appear on stage to be welcomed. Then there will be an opportunity for members of the community to seek autographs or photographs with the athletes as the athletes mill about the Festival grounds.
The 1980 team will participate in the opening ceremonies of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field and watch the meet at Hayward Field.
The 1980 Team Reunion will be an opportunity to celebrate the past, present and future of Hayward Field and Track Town, USA.
